B is for Bananas

I have always lived in a cold zone – the zone 5 growing area. This is where we grow apples and pears, and the tulips and daffodils get a lot more than 5 weeks of cold. It is where we buy oranges, lemons and bananas in the grocery store. Oh so many years ago we visited grandma and grandpa when they lived south of Orlando. That was before Disney, when there were groves of orange trees instead of hordes of people. I learned about the smell of orange blossoms and growing oranges on trees.

One of the surprises of spending winters in zone 25 are the bananas growing next to my kitchen window and in the botanical gardens. The banana plants by my window haven’t produced yet but there are lots of bananas growing in the Naples Botanical Gardens.
