This is a refurbished abandoned rail in the Appalachian mountains. We visited it as we drove the Blue Ridge Parkway that is a national park. There is also a couple of trails that can be hiked along the ridge – they are long and require more strength than I currently have. 🙂
Is this a disused railway track? Here, many have been turned into cycle paths or footpaths.

No, Sue. They are narrow gauge rails in Appalachia used to transport either coal or logs down the mountains.

Yes. That is why it was so powerful for me to photograph. I could imagine the noise and soot and destruction of the land.
