My chocolate iris are blooming their hearts out this year. When perennials bloom it is like having friends visit after not seeing them for a long time. The daffodils didn’t bloom well this year and I missed them, so I am really enjoying the iris – and eagerly awaiting blooms in the other perennials that are teasing me with lush growth. JB likes marigolds so he bought a flat; I’m going to weave them among the perennials so the yellow and orange will draw our eyes through the garden and accent the perennials. At least that is my vision – we will see how it works.
I’ve been looking for a Chocolate Iris like this for years…..would you sell me a rhizome please? Thank you for your consideration….

I don’t know. My daughter got it from a neighbor in Little Rock, Louisiana when she was moving back to Michigan. I looked on-line and wasn’t able it identify it because there are several names including chocolate and pictures are unreliable in color.

Oh I love irises! I’m not sure where you live, but in New Jersey there’s an entire garden of irises, including almost black ones, new ones, ancient ones, etc. etc. It’s fabulous. I like your yellow marigold ribbon idea – should work!

I love irises, too. We had a garden that had rows of them in all colors and they were for sale. You could go when they were blooming and pick the colors that coordinated well in the garden. We live in Michigan and they do well if clay soil is amended.
